Job Title: Assistant Service Manager
Job Summary
The Assistant Service Manager at McCarthy Tire Service supports daily operations at a commercial tire service location. This role oversees technicians and service flow, ensures high customer satisfaction, maintains efficient shop operations, and supports overall store performance. The position is hands-on and requires strong leadership, technical tire knowledge, and a customer-focused approach in a fast-paced commercial service environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assign and manage daily service work for commercial tire technicians, mobile units, and shop staff to ensure timely, accurate completion.
Supervise tire technicians and support staff, including scheduling, training, performance coaching, discipline, and motivation.
Deliver excellent customer service from vehicle intake through completion and follow-up; recommend appropriate tire products and services and resolve concerns promptly.
Ensure all work meets safety standards, company quality guidelines, and customer expectations while minimizing fleet downtime.
Oversee shop operations, including workflow efficiency, equipment maintenance, cleanliness, organization, and inventory control.
Assist store leadership with daily operations, including overtime control, inventory management, and operational decision-making.
Coordinate with sales teams on commercial fleet accounts, roadside assistance, and service upselling opportunities.
Track key performance metrics such as service times, customer satisfaction, and technician productivity to support sales and profitability goals.
Promote a safe, team-oriented workplace in compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience
3–5+ years in tire service, automotive, or commercial vehicle repair.
Supervisory or management experience in a tire shop, auto service center, or fleet environment preferred.
Knowledge
Working knowledge of commercial tires, retreading, mounting and repair, alignments, basic mechanical services, and fleet tire management preferred.
Skills
Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in a high-volume environment.
Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical training or relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
Additional Requirements
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to lift heavy tires and work in a physical shop environment.
Flexibility for occasional overtime.
Work Authorization
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
