McCarthy Tire Service is seeking an experienced, hands-on Service Manager to lead and strengthen our service operations in the Charleston, SC area.
The Service Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the service department, including commercial tire service operations, technicians, scheduling, customer service, safety, productivity, and personnel. This is a working manager position for a strong leader who is comfortable working alongside their team while maintaining accountability for the department’s performance.
The ideal candidate will have strong commercial tire and service experience, proven leadership skills, and the ability to effectively manage people, workflow, and daily operations in a fast-paced environment.

McCarthy Tire Service is seeking an experienced, hands-on Service Manager to lead and strengthen our service operations in the Charleston, SC area.
The Service Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the service department, including commercial tire service operations, technicians, scheduling, customer service, safety, productivity, and personnel. This is a working manager position for a strong leader who is comfortable working alongside their team while maintaining accountability for the department’s performance.
The ideal candidate will have strong commercial tire and service experience, proven leadership skills, and the ability to effectively manage people, workflow, and daily operations in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Service Operations
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the commercial tire service department.
- Provide daily direction, priorities, and distribution of service work orders to commercial tire technicians.
- Lead, coach, train, and motivate service technicians and other department personnel.
- Manage personnel performance, attendance, productivity, and accountability.
- Create and manage staggered employee schedules based on business volume and customer needs.
- Control and manage overtime while maintaining appropriate staffing levels.
- Monitor department productivity and work with the team to meet or exceed monthly revenue goals.
- Ensure service work is completed accurately, efficiently, safely, and within required timeframes.
- Serve as a hands-on leader and work alongside the team in service, warehouse, and yard operations as needed.
- Assist with new-hire orientation, onboarding, training, and employee development.
- Identify staffing, tooling, equipment, and training needs and communicate those needs to management.
- Utilize knowledge of commercial tire products, applications, construction, MRT processes, and tread designs to support service operations.
- Ensure technicians follow proper commercial tire service procedures and safety requirements.
- Match customer applications with appropriate tire and service solutions when needed.
- Monitor the quality of all service work performed and address issues promptly.
- Support the sales department with scheduling incoming shop work and coordinating customer service needs.
- Provide strong customer service and assist with resolving customer concerns and service-related issues.
- Maintain a safe working environment and ensure employees follow company safety policies and procedures.
- TIA Certification is preferred.
- Oversee the organization, cleanliness, and efficiency of the service shop, warehouse, and yard.
- Stock products and maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Assist with loading and unloading deliveries as needed.
- Assist with barcoding and inventory management.
- Review and correct negative and zero-cost inventory issues.
- Manage tooling and equipment needs for service technicians and mechanics.
- Schedule and coordinate maintenance for domiciled company vehicles.
- Actively participate in warehouse and yard activities when business needs require.
- Generate and manage computer work orders for all products and labor.
- Create, edit, match, and close AS400 work orders, including quotes, estimates, standard, and generic work orders.
- Review work orders for accuracy prior to closing.
- Correct and close work orders within required timeframes, with a goal of closing work orders within 72 hours of generation.
- Work with billing personnel to ensure accurate tire billing, customer numbers, and billing codes.
- Assist with billing as needed.
- Support pricing of products for in-house customers.
- Submit service department payables to the Location Manager for approval, including purchase orders, accounts payable, and scrap tire disposal processing (OOSTA).
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a commercial tire, fleet service, automotive, heavy-duty, or related service environment.
- Strong commercial tire and service industry experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, coach, and motivate a team.
- Experience managing daily service operations, workflow, scheduling, and personnel.
- Strong understanding of commercial tire service procedures, safety requirements, and customer applications.
- Ability to work hands-on alongside technicians and service personnel.
- Strong customer service and problem-resolution skills.
- Computer literate with the ability to learn and utilize company systems and software.
- Ability to read, understand, and prepare store and operational reports.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure and time constraints.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability for department performance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees, management, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to learn quickly and take on additional responsibilities as business needs require.
- TIA Certification is preferred but not required.
